If you compare the trailers, then the House of Dragons is a lot more awesome trailers and the series itself is magnificent; it’s better to look at the House of Dragons, it’s much more interesting

It’s strange to compare the masterpiece of the House of Dragons, the trailer for season 2 is stunning and to compare the unsuccessful and bad series Lord of the Rings, which I couldn’t even finish watching. For me, The Lords of the Rings was a very bad set in terms of the entire plot of the actors, but for that they spent a billion on this series and it turned out to be shit

it's not a retcon Sauron is a shapeshifter and the version of him we see in this trailer is his Annatar elf form.

I disagree that Rings of Power creates new images or new anything. It’s all regurgitation. House of the Dragon is something we haven’t seen before. The story is out so we know what happens and can say that it’s different from GOT. Rings of power doesn’t even feel like it has a story. It just feels like the diversity show.

Probably my biggest complaint about the show is that it's written assuming you've paid attention to all the meta info released by Vivsie explaining the lore. Which is just bad writing; a show should be able to stand on its own and not require the audience to perform hours of research to understand what the fuck is going on. One of the best examples of this is the whole "dying in hell". There is literally NO explanation in the show about what happens when someone "dies" in hell, nor do they mention being "erased" when being killed by angelic steel. I love this show to death, but they really dropped the ball on explaining some of the lore so people who don't follow Vivsie on all social media platforms know how this world works.

The back stories to the main cast weren't important to the overall story much like del's back story in the green mile. I get that you want the "show" to show you this information but it won't, you have to do your own research with the songs found across UA-cam. These songs were small stories of the characters that we were given until the show finally came out 5 years later.

The teaser did its job for me. Got me more interested in season 2 and thats all it really needed to do. Im also glad they arent airing at the same time, they are different stories with different goals ect, the only similarity is they are fantasy prequels Season 10 of game of thrones looks good ngl

Nighty grabbed onto a concept in the first 5 minutes of episode 1 and never let it go. He does this with everything. The show will never be good in his eyes till this one concept is resolved.

Charlie's a naive, sheltered optimist whose idea of what 'good behaviour' is seems to be a mishmash of her parents stories, stuff other people in hell think is what got them there and summer camp team building... and you're surprised her plans for 'redeeming sinners' are confused and don't seem to make sense if you think about them?

Really enjoying the reactions and different thoughts on the show between the both of you. The show takes it's time with answers but they do hint a lot at things through it's characters and world as the show goes on. This episode probably being the first where we start to have some idea of a bigger picture/larger plot. That being said I do think the setting/lore takes more of a step back over its characters.

Another way to view the story of this show is the commentary it’s making on class systems, and how I interpreted it, thru wealth inequality. While it’s very fantastical on the surface with themes of good vs evil and redemption of those that want to be better people, you could also draw parallels from the perspective of the “have’s” and the “have not’s”. When a “have not” (a “sinner” from hell, depending on whatever the catch-all definition of that is from being a queer person or someone who actually committed a horrible act while alive) wants to be “redeemed” and become a “have” (live in Heaven), it seems to follow a similar path of those who are poor and want to become rich, or at least not as poor anymore so they’re not worried about basic survival. Even when a nepo baby like Charlie tries to do the right thing to use what power she has to help others out of the bad situations they’re in and better their lives, she’s laughed out of the room by most because she’s daring to go against the status quo and shake up the current systems in place. There can be no one on top of the pyramid (in Heaven) if majority of those are not at the bottom as the foundation (in Hell). A lot of those in power in Heaven, like Adam, think they are morally superior to those in Hell just like a lot of those that are wealthy have a similar superiority complex when it comes to those that are less fortunate than them and think the rules of being a decent person don’t apply to them. Why would those individuals do anything to disrupt a system they are currently benefitting from? That’s why Charlie faces so much opposition, because being a good person and doing the right thing, regardless of your personal background or status in the hierarchy of things, unfortunately does not go with the flow of how the systems Heaven and Hell currently operate from what we know so far. This world and a lot of its inhabitants seem to operate from a mindset of “for me to be more, you have to be less”. Charlie questioning that by trying to change things by helping people and giving them a leg up into Heaven ruffles the feathers of those in Heaven, like Adam, that clearly want the sinners and other inhabitants of Hell to “know their proper place”. If things were truly fair, a lot of sinners would be redeemed and earn a place in Heaven, or at least not face the threat of possible extermination every year, and even angels like Adam would be re-evaluated and condemned to Hell. That unfairness, which is very similar to wealth inequality, and the resistance to righting that wrong is the very thing this show wants us to question. Why complicate things by standing in the way of someone genuinely wanting to better themselves and the situation they’re in? Because if they get more, people like Adam will think what they have in status will be less because there’s no way they would accept being on the same level as a sinner, redeemed or not. Anyway, just my two cents and how I interpreted things, but it’s food for thought and some things to think about, especially going into the next episode. Tell me you haven't read the books without telling me you haven't read the books: Spoilers ahead! Lord of the rings: so it isn't a retcon. Sauron is a Maiar. A lesser god to some extent. Gandalf is also a Maiar btw. So Sauron is not the fighter Morgoth was. Sauron is a deceiver and manipulator. He schemes more than anything else. He is also a craftsman. He was a maiar close to the valar Aulé the smith. But he is a schemer. In the books from what i remember he is a elf for most of it working his way into the throne rooms and council positions of powerfull kingdoms like Numenor. This is also the form he uses to deceive Celebrimbor into making the rings with him. This form is known as his "fair" form. Sauron is a manipulator more then anything. House of the dragon: now before we start I am a green supporter but I'll try to be non biased if I do need to talk about the factions. So the throne is "to big". Well actually it is still to small. In the books it is way larger than what is shown here. Does it look silly? Yes, yes it does. Is it cool as hell? Yes, yes it is. So the throne is actually toned down a lot. "Framing the season about the two of them". I think he is referring to Aegon 2 and Rhaenyra. It was always meant to be about them. Alicent is a supporter of the greens not it's leader. That has always been Aegon. Now in the first season they don't do this because it is way better to force the conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent. It starts off that way in the books to. But, it should now be Aegon taking the reigns instead of Otto, Aemond or Alicent. And Criston Cole should get closer to Aegon not Aemond as he will be named hand of the king and if I remember correctly, somewhat be angry with Almond when he decides on some risky tactics the further we get into the war. But it is Aegon who always was the main focus of the Greens. If he is referring to Daemon and Rhaenyra, I got no clue what he was talking about. Daemon not knowing how to wash dishes or anything because he was rich is a bit stupid. This man has been at war before. Been on campaigns and all of those things. Now true, he was still a prince there and had some better treatment, but i think he still does a lot of things himself.

I don't know much about the lore of the show, so can't comment on the actual intentions. But the way I interpret the premise is that it's a conversation of whether redemption is possible once you've already been damned - hence Adam's hell is a forever stance vs Charlie's redemption stance. If you've been sentenced to eternal damnation, you'd probably eventually give into the depravity of hell, regardless of what you did to end up there. So to me, it doesn't actually matter how anyone got to hell, because it's not about whether or not they deserve to be there, it's about whether they can improve once they are there. Even if it starts with smaller insignificant moments vs a grand plan to save hell's souls. Similar to some of the moral questioning in The Good Place.

This show is meant to have its own spin on the original story of the bible, this is not the "biblical" lucifer but rather a different interpretation of lucifer who is caring and wanted humans to have free will, but it just so happened that free will caused evil to take hold in earth. Lucifer didnt mean for evil to find its way into the human realm, but he still was punished by heaven and was banished to hell, forever to see the awful things that come out of humanity because of his actions. Something i do wish was explored more in the show itself is how and why the hotel residents ended up in hell, but that has been explored in q and a's and comics from before the show was green lit.

Amazon is doubling down on the sunk cost fallacy, and this trailer of theirs looks like more of that laughable storytelling, wooden acting and cringe dialogue is in store for those who tune in. If the first seasons are good baselines for the second seasons, I’ll be looking forward to watching HOTD, and reading the comment section for ROP review videos.

Love the reaction and I kind of get Nerdy's frustration but honestly, I really love that we didn't get all the information about Alastor and Lucifer this episode, keeps things interesting. That delayed gratification is gonna be SO Sweet! Also, I think the Best way to think about this show is like a puzzle. Every episode you get a new piece of lore and sometimes you think it means something but then you get a new part and it turns out completely differently. Also Also things are not as they seem! Like for example, in the first episode when you get the creation of hell story, that is from Charlie's parents' point of view. Who knows if it's really the truth! Just take everything with a grain of salt and keep gathering more lore in ya brain. When we finally get the bigger picture it will be awesome!

Couldn't not notice how Amazon made sure RoP came back a few weeks after HotD finishes to attempt to not get clowned on this time. I do disagree that they’ll massively retcon stuff in RoP, especially in a “forget what you saw well act like something else happened” way Partly cos I worry they don’t realise how much they missed the mark and also even if they did cos they wouldn’t want to display obvious weaknesses like that inviting “troubled desperate show” articles I’m also a strong believer in writers being able to write themselves out of a lot of corners (which a lot of Hollywood doesn’t with how often they reboot at the smallest road bump lol). I think they could salvage something good with the right scripting cos the Durin stuff was great and some scenes in the final two eps for the other plots were good so it’s not a total lost cause even tho I don’t think the show will ever average out as great just maybe good but very pretty Plus they don’t need to worry about the audience remembering “all” that happened in s1 cos really while many things technically happen very little of note really happened until like the final two eps Got no notes on HotD as I have faith and the trailer style didn’t give me much to latch onto individual scenes. I do wish they had ignored the original show’s depiction of the Iron Throne and gone for the insane book-accurate one cos adding a load of swords around it isn’t enough and I feel the rest of the world feels more realised than I did which went a bit too grounded and constrained (maybe Winterfell will feel bigger than a small town square now and an actual castle city) Oh god, you reminded me of the dark ep. I hope that director isn’t back this season cos I won’t have access to the show in HDR this time around (and even then summer time was too bright and I had to watch that ep at 1 am with my room light off to see what was happening)

I actually like the Harfoots plot in the previous season, I hope there's still something there in this season!
